Nature Driven
Scott Rich® started with a wild idea to turn a photograph into wearable art. My journey into fashion began in Radiography, nowhere near the artistic world of color, textures and fabric. My design path has been one of transformation, observation, and reinvention that began in Upstate New York and New England. Moving to Orange County, CA after High School was where I studied Radiology Technology at Orange Coast College and had an expansive, 10-year career as a Technologist.
During that time, I was a travel X-ray technologist for several years, which took me throughout the U.S., including the San Francisco Bay Area, San Diego, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Knoxville, TN, and Palm Beach Coast, FL. Constantly absorbing my surroundings with X-ray vision, always seeing beauty beneath the surfaces, discovering unseen details, exploring the obscure and the different. This is how I seek true design — gathering inspiration from the layered depth and beauty of nature’s unnoticed wonders.
These life experiences taught me to embrace beauty and change, to be daring and adventurous. This immersed me in exciting experiences, cultures, art, architecture, and design. Together, it shaped how I see the surface as an artist, discovering Mother Nature’s gifts of colors, textures and silent beauty, awakening and inspiring my creativity.
Through my fashion styling experiences, I realized my sole purpose in life was to be artistic, creative and expressive. My idea was to start a fashion line with a style in mind that could move with us easily through our chaotic lives — a line that was comfortable, stylish, travel-friendly (packable/easy-care), and functional — with an added modern twist, something personal and interesting-my photographic nature prints and patterns.
Once weary of the somber, cold, black-and-white world of X-ray exam rooms, emergency rooms, and operating rooms, I felt an undeniable gravitation toward color, creativity, and expression. My life experiences began to inspire me to pursue a career in the vibrant worlds of art and design where imagination thrives. Accepted to The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, I ventured back to the East Coast to experience real city life in the Big Apple. My time in NYC exposed me to urban life, culture and a will to live a fast-paced lifestyle.
Studying fashion and interior design at FIT opened the door to extraordinary opportunities and kept me immersed in fashion, art, architecture, and bustling city life. Most memorable was working with designer duo Duckie Brown as a wardrobe assistant at Olympus Fashion Week in Bryant Park. The bold way they fused color, textures and print combinations with impeccable attention to detail, inspired me greatly. Growing tired of the long, cold winters in NYC, I got another urge to head West again. This time, I made the move to the City of Angels. As an assistant fashion stylist in Los Angeles and Hollywood, I worked on several amazing projects.
Starting with Mark Auria, and a Fall Fashion feature with Brian Primeaux, for LA Confidential Magazine with actor Luke Macfarlane, who is known best for playing “Scotty” in the popular television series Brothers and Sisters with the legendary Sally Field, who won an Emmy for her role as “Nora” in the series.
Also in Hollywood and LA, I worked as a Styling Assistant for Modern Luxury Magazine–Miami, and Wardrobe Supervisor for VH1’s “America’s Next Top Zombie Model,” Death Angel’s music video “Dethroned”: featuring special effects make-up and costumes. Trailer Choir’s “Off the Hillbilly Hook” included on the movie soundtrack, “Beer For My Horses” featuring Toby Keith and Willie Nelson.
For more adventure and opportunity, I moved further South to San Diego, where I created and launched my first collections at FWSD. Inspired by my photography of nature, and the will to create something new, I uncovered how to turn that wild idea into fruition. Through a sustainable, eco-friendly, fabric dyeing technique, I found the way bring my photography and passion for nature to life through fashion.
My debut Natal Plum flower print exploded as the look of that season, and was the featured in New York Times Fashion, The Zoe Report, California Apparel News, Fox 5-San Diego, 10TEN Magazine (UK), and CLEO Magazine-Thailand.
My deep passion for interior design and living optimally, expanded my brand into Certified Home Staging and Redesign. Whether styling a room or a garment, designing artfully through color, balance, and feeling is my purpose — transforming space, by creating a certain mood with an intentional vision.
More recently, my debut Natal Plum print (polo/shorts set) was chosen for the 2023 LGBTQ+ horror-comedy feature film Summoning Sylvia , starring Frankie Grande, Noah J. Ricketts, and Michael Urie. This project was initiated by my former classmate and Costume Designer friend, Jevyn Nelms, who has worked on a multitude of projects including The Bourne Ultimatum, featuring Matt Damon.
At the core of everything created at Scott Rich® — in fashion, photography, or interiors — is a single intention: to induce connection. My artistry reflects my belief that fashion and design should be felt together, as a lifestyle.
Today, Scott Rich® represents a harmony of art, design, comfort, and consciousness — a brand inspired by nature, rooted in sustainability, and defined by art, and craft.
